A Pasadena man who had been living unhoused now has a roof over his head and plans to spend more time with his children and grandchildren, thanks to the city's Pasadena Outreach Response Team.

The City of Pasadena announced the housing placement on Monday, Aug. 17, sharing a photo of the resident posing with PORT and Pasadena Fire Department representatives outside what the city called "a place he can now call home."

The city said he is looking forward to spending more time with his children and grandchildren now that he has stable housing.

PORT is a multi-agency collaboration between the city's Public Health Department, the Pasadena Fire Department and Union Station Homeless Services. The team deploys a case manager, a public health nurse, a firefighter and an outreach worker from Union Station directly into the field to connect people experiencing homelessness with housing, medical care, mental health services and substance-use treatment.

The placement is at least the second PORT housing success announced this summer. In June, the city reported that PORT and Friends In Deed helped a woman secure an apartment. She marked the occasion by singing for the team in her new living room.

The wins come as Pasadena's homeless population holds roughly steady. The city's 2026 Point-in-Time Count, conducted the night of Jan. 21, tallied 577 people experiencing homelessness, four fewer than the 581 counted in 2025. The unsheltered count dropped 6%, according to the city's count data. That slight decline bucked a regional trend: homelessness rose 1.2% across Los Angeles County overall.

Residents who encounter someone in need of outreach services can call Pasadena's Homeless Outreach Hotline at (626) 744-7200.
