Pasadena homeowners will pay less for a ready-to-plant native garden kit after Pasadena Water and Power raised its rebate from $60 to $75, the city-owned utility announced Tuesday, July 7.
The higher rebate applies to the "Pasadena Plants Native" program, a partnership with TreePeople, the Los Angeles-based environmental nonprofit. The program is returning with a bigger incentive than last year's cycle.
Each kit includes 10 one-gallon California native plants pre-selected for a 100-square-foot garden area, a plant-by-number site map, an installation guide, and educational materials. Residents choose from three themed palettes: Sunshine Superbloom, Splendid Silhouettes, and Pollinator's Paradise. Plants are grown by local nurseries including Growing Works and TreePeople's own facility, and are designated for fall planting.
Who qualifies
The rebate is open to PWP residential water customers only. The utility serves nearly 38,000 water accounts across Pasadena. Only first-time participants qualify, one discounted kit per household, available while supplies last.
How to apply
Eligible customers visit TreePeople.org/Native-Garden-Kit, complete a short survey verifying their address and utility eligibility, and receive an email within two business days with a rebate code and ordering instructions. Kits are pickup only; they are not shipped.
PWP also offers a separate $2-per-square-foot turf replacement rebate through the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California for residents who swap grass for drought-tolerant landscaping.
No application deadline has been announced. The utility said the program runs while supplies last. Residents with questions can call PWP Customer Service at 626-744-4005, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
