A documentary capturing the frantic final hours of volunteer float-decorating for the Pasadena Rose Parade will get its world premiere Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Angeles Documentary Film Festival in Hollywood.

"The Last Eight," directed by Burbank-based filmmaker Bryanna Reynolds, chronicles the last eight hours of Deco Week, the final stretch of float construction, in December 2025. More than 1,000 volunteers with the Burbank Tournament of Roses Association (BTORA) glued thousands of flowers and dry materials onto the "All Paws on Deck" float bound for the Jan. 1, 2026, parade down Colorado Boulevard. Torrential rain complicated the effort.

"It's very intense when the judges come in and last year was very hectic with the pouring rain," Reynolds told Pasadena Weekly.

Reynolds, originally from Melbourne, Australia, moved to Los Angeles in 2019 and has worked as a television documentary producer, including a Discovery Channel project on treasure hunting. She met BTORA board member and decorations committee chair Terri Coomes while playing bingo in April 2025. That chance encounter led Reynolds to volunteer at BTORA's float site at Burbank Water and Power, where she began filming.

She started with 20 hours of raw footage and cut it to 18 minutes, producing the film through her independent company, Jurassic Spud Productions.

BTORA is one of six self-built float organizations that construct their own Rose Parade entries without corporate sponsorship. The others include South Pasadena, Sierra Madre and La Cañada Flintridge. Across all float builders, volunteers log more than 100,000 hours during the week before the parade, according to Pasadena Star-News reporting.

"If we don't have volunteers, we don't have a float, even with the last eight hours," Coomes told Pasadena Weekly.

The 18-minute film premieres at The Broadwater (Main Stage), 1076 Lillian Way, Los Angeles. The Angeles Documentary Film Festival, established in 2016, screens documentaries exclusively. Screening times and ticket details had not been posted as of Aug. 20; readers can check the festival's FilmFreeway page for updates. Reynolds said the film is also scheduled for additional international festival screenings.

Reynolds plans to volunteer with BTORA again for the 2027 Rose Parade. The next public Decorating Places viewing window runs Dec. 28–30, ahead of the 138th Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2027.
