A pedestrian was struck and killed on the eastbound 210 Freeway in Pasadena late Saturday night, Aug. 1, shutting down the freeway for at least two hours during the investigation.

The California Highway Patrol reported the crash at 11:40 p.m. on the eastbound span west of Lake Avenue. A CHP spokesperson confirmed to KTLA on Sunday, Aug. 2, that "one party was confirmed deceased on scene."

Preliminary information from CHP indicates the victim was a pedestrian, though the agency has not explained how the person came to be on the freeway. The victim's identity had not been released as of Sunday.

Driver's status, cause still unknown

CHP had not confirmed whether the driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene or fled. No details about the driver, the vehicle involved, or the circumstances that brought the pedestrian onto the freeway have been released.

No arrests have been made.

A SigAlert — a traffic advisory indicating a significant lane closure — was issued after the collision, and the eastbound 210 was shut down while investigators worked the scene. The closure lasted at least two hours, affecting drivers on one of the main freeway corridors connecting Pasadena to communities to the east.

Investigation ongoing

The CHP Altadena Area office is handling the investigation. The office, located at 2130 Windsor Avenue in Altadena, patrols approximately 400 square miles that include Pasadena and portions of Interstate 210.
