The Rose Parade will receive $500,000 from the state of California to help cover public safety and operations costs, according to the Tournament of Roses.

State Sen. Sasha Renée Pérez, who represents Senate District 25 including Pasadena, secured the funding in the 2026-27 state budget. The Tournament of Roses thanked Pérez and other legislative supporters in an announcement on Instagram on Sept. 11.

The allocation will support security, public safety and operations for the annual New Year's Day parade down Colorado Boulevard. Pasadena shoulders significant crowd-management and traffic costs each parade day, and the state money is directed at easing that burden.

The Tournament of Roses cited the parade's economic reach in making the case for state support. The organization said the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game together generate about $245 million in annual economic impact. Those events support more than 2,100 full-time equivalent jobs, according to the organization.

Nearly 800,000 visitors travel to Pasadena each year for the parade. The broadcast reaches more than 40 million viewers worldwide, the Tournament of Roses said.

The parade has been running for more than 135 years.

The organization described the allocation as recognition of what the community already knows: that the parade delivers steady value for Pasadena, greater Los Angeles and California. Pérez, who was elected to Senate District 25 in November 2024, represents a district stretching from Pasadena east to Claremont.

The next Rose Parade rolls down Colorado Boulevard on Jan. 1, 2027.
