Field (Eugene) Elementary earned the top spot among Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) elementary schools in the U.S. News & World Report 2027 Best Elementary Schools rankings, placing No. 174 out of 5,920 ranked schools statewide.
The K-5 school on Sierra Madre Boulevard scored 97.08 out of 100 overall. Its math and reading performance both rated "well above expectations," according to U.S. News.
Field's students outpaced district and state averages by wide margins. Seventy-nine percent scored at or above the proficient level in math, compared with 42% across PUSD and 38% statewide. In reading, 74% hit proficiency, versus 46% districtwide and 44% across California.
The school enrolls 449 students and has 18 full-time teachers, all certified. Its student-teacher ratio of 26:1 is higher than the district average. Twenty-nine percent of students are economically disadvantaged.
Field is one of 14 ranked elementary schools in PUSD, which serves about 13,757 students across 23 campuses. The district also saw five high schools recognized in the U.S. News Best High Schools rankings in August 2026, according to a PUSD news release.
The rankings draw on students' performance on state math and reading assessments during the 2023-2024 school year, the most recent data available. Half the formula measures raw proficiency scores, and the other half evaluates those results in the context of each school's socioeconomic makeup, according to the U.S. News methodology page.
Field is also among 11 PUSD campuses undergoing soil removal and restoration following the Eaton Fire, according to the district's fire relief page. PUSD said it is completing the remediation during summer break under oversight from the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) so campuses can reopen for the 2026-2027 school year.
No statement from Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco or Field's principal about the elementary rankings appeared in public records as of publication.
