Pasadena residents looking to add a pet to the family can adopt any dog, cat or small animal at Pasadena Humane on Saturday, Aug. 29, without paying an adoption fee.

The shelter at 361 S. Raymond Ave. is hosting its annual Clear the Shelters event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., waiving fees for every available animal as part of NBCUniversal's nationwide adoption campaign. The Leonard & Robert Weintraub Family Foundation is sponsoring the day.

"Every animal at our shelter has something special to offer and is waiting for the right person or family to give them a chance," President and CEO Chris Ramon said in a statement announcing the event. "Clear the Shelters is a great opportunity to bring our community together and help more pets take the next step from the shelter into loving homes. …"

Ramon said the shelter is grateful to NBCUniversal for spotlighting the impact of adoption.

Pasadena Humane has taken part in the campaign every year since it launched in 2015, helping hundreds of local animals find homes, according to the shelter's announcement. Nationally, Clear the Shelters drove more than 160,000 adoptions last year and has generated over 1.3 million adoptions across its 12-year run.

Summer tends to be a busier season at the shelter, Pasadena Humane said in its announcement, making the timing especially relevant for animals waiting for placement.

Every adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccines and a microchip. New adopters also get a complimentary wellness exam with a partner veterinarian and an informational care packet. Standard adoption screening still applies, and a pet licensing fee may be required depending on the adopter's city.

Prospective adopters can browse available animals ahead of time at pasadenahumane.org.

No appointment needed. The shelter's regular hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
