The Pasadena Public Health Department is urging residents to check their freezers after Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream recalled select Outshine Fruit Bars over possible glass contamination.

The city posted the alert on X on Tuesday, Aug. 25, in English, Spanish, Armenian and Chinese, telling residents not to eat the affected products. Anyone who bought a recalled box should throw it away or return it for a full refund.

The recall covers five flavors of 6-count, 2.5-ounce bars: Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine and Black Cherry. A 24-count Variety Pack is also included. No other Outshine products are affected.

Dreyer's, the Walnut Creek-based manufacturer, issued the voluntary recall on Aug. 16 after consumers reported finding glass in the bars. The FDA posted the notice on Aug. 18. No injuries or illnesses have been reported.

The recalled packages carry "best before" dates between May 2027 and October 2027, meaning they could still be sitting in home freezers for months. James E. Rogers, PhD, director of food safety testing at Consumer Reports, said in the organization's Aug. 19 coverage of the recall: "Check your freezer since these products have a long shelf life, and throw out any recalled frozen fruit bars, or return them for a refund."

The products were distributed to retailers nationwide. No specific Pasadena-area stores were named in the recall, so residents should check any location where they may have purchased Outshine bars.

To confirm whether a product is affected, check the UPC, batch code and best-before date printed on the bottom of the package. The full list of recalled codes is available on the FDA's recall page.
