Hanna Jungbauer played a toy plastic trumpet, spun inside a ballgown covered in giant googly eyes, and won the 2026 Doo Dah Queen crown at The Old Towne Pub in Pasadena.
The Monrovia resident took the title on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the pub on North Fair Oaks Avenue. It was her second try. She first competed in 2024.
But Jungbauer won't lead a march down Colorado Boulevard. A delay in permitting has forced organizers to transform this year's Doo Dah from its traditional street parade into a "love-in" style park festival at Memorial Park on Nov. 22 at 11 a.m., according to Light Bringer Project Board Chair Thomas Coston, as first reported by the Pasadena Star-News.
"It's going to be raucous fun, mayhem, merriment, and music for everybody," Coston said.
The format change marks the second straight year without a Colorado Boulevard procession. In 2025, organizers postponed the street parade, citing wildfire-related pressures and uncertainty over education funding, Pasadena Now reported. That year, the event moved to Dog Haus Biergarten and Old Towne Pub.
Light Bringer Project, a Pasadena-based arts education nonprofit founded in 1990, has produced the Doo Dah Parade since 1995. The event, known as the "twisted sister of the Rose Parade," has run in Pasadena since 1978, according to its website.
The Oct. 25 queen tryouts drew feathers, sequins, tie-dye and outsized personalities. Each contestant performed for a few minutes and answered questions from a judge panel and the crowd.
Jungbauer's googly-eye gown represented her mission to spotlight local businesses in the San Gabriel Valley, a cause she promotes on her social media account "Hanna's Side Quest." Her performance featured a customized soundtrack with wind effects from "The Wizard of Oz" and "Twister" as she lifted the hoop of her dress to transform into a tornado. The crowd responded with loud cheers.
River Hildebrandt, a 35-year-old Pasadena resident, tied for runner-up after competing dressed as the city's infamous green parrots. Decked in at least five shades of green with dyed hair and small feather wings, Hildebrandt danced to AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" while swinging plastic white balls.
Which permit caused the delay and whether the parade will return to Colorado Boulevard have not been disclosed. Specific details about the Nov. 22 love-in at Memorial Park, including start time and performers, have not been announced.
