Irene Maddox, a senior at Eagle Rock High School, is Pasadena's 2027 Rose Queen.

Tournament of Roses President Terry Madigan crowned Maddox on Tuesday, Oct. 27, on the front steps of Tournament House, as first reported by City News Service via Pasadena Now. Nineteen past Rose Queens attended the ceremony, including 1945 queen Mary Rutte Wallace, the oldest living Rose Queen.

Maddox was chosen from a seven-member Rose Court announced Sept. 28. The selection process drew applicants from 41 Pasadena-area schools and began in August, according to the Tournament of Roses.

The other court members are Evita Bridge of Mayfield Senior School, Tessa Choi of La Cañada High School, Daniela Guzmán of Arcadia High School, Maria Teresa McDonald of Thurgood Marshall Secondary School, Elizabeth Rweyemamu of Polytechnic School and Lucy Wendling of San Marino High School. Each court member receives a $7,500 academic scholarship and will serve as a Tournament of Roses ambassador at community events leading up to the parade.

Maddox serves as editor-in-chief of broadcast journalism for Eagle Rock's school newspaper, the Eagle's Scream, and founded the school's Korean Culture Club, according to a Pasadena Weekly profile published when the court was announced. She captains both the varsity swim and water polo teams and previously competed in figure skating. She is fluent in English and Korean and serves as a youth group leader at Christian Assembly Church.

She is the 108th Rose Queen. The tradition dates to 1905.

The 138th Rose Parade carries the theme "Welcome," chosen by Madigan. A grand marshal has not yet been named as of October 28.

When the court was announced in September, Madigan said the seven members would share "hope, joy and endless possibilities" with the world on New Year's Day, according to published reports cited by HeySoCal.

Maddox and the court will ride a float down Colorado Boulevard in the 138th Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2027, and attend the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the 113th Rose Bowl Game.
