A ballroom dance studio on East Colorado Boulevard is inviting the public to a free open house Wednesday, Aug. 12, offering waltz, samba and salsa to adults 50 and older who don't need to bring a partner.
DanceStreet, at 2295 E. Colorado Blvd., Unit B, will host the three-hour event from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening includes three group classes, live dance performances and open social dancing, plus appetizers and drinks, according to Pasadena Now. Admission is free.
The studio was founded by Nikolay Voronovich and Maria Nikolishina, competitive ballroom dancers originally from Russia who moved to the United States to further their competitive careers before retiring from competition and opening DanceStreet. According to the studio's website, the pair teach all masterclasses themselves, covering standard, Latin and American ballroom styles.
The open house is designed as a sampler of DanceStreet's full programming. The studio markets its classes to adults 50 and older, framing ballroom dance as a way to improve balance and build social connections, not just refine technique. No partner is required for any class.
Beyond that core audience, DanceStreet offers wedding dance instruction, competitive-level coaching through private lessons and group classes, and youth programs tailored to kids ages 3 to 12 and teens ages 13 to 17. A private introductory lesson for new adult students runs $35.
The studio's regular schedule includes weeknight samba and salsa classes at the syllabus level and monthly social dance parties. The space also hosts private events, filming and photo shoots, according to the studio's site.
No opening date for DanceStreet at this location has been publicly announced, though the studio describes its Colorado Boulevard space as a newer facility.
Two more events follow the open house: an Embassy Ball Outing on Friday, Sept. 4, and a "Meet the Judges" evening on Saturday, Oct. 24.
