Residents who lost wardrobes in the Eaton Fire can pick up free clothing at Loma Alta Park in Altadena through Saturday, August 8, no donation required.
The Altadena Library District is sponsoring the Summer Clothing Swap Rack, a free outdoor exchange where visitors can browse shirts, pants, shorts, dresses and skirts left by neighbors. The program has been extended through August 8, overlapping with back-to-school season.
What's on the rack
Visitors may bring up to three clean, gently used adult clothing items to add to the rack, or they can show up empty-handed and take what they need. Accepted categories are limited to shirts, pants and shorts, and dresses and skirts. Shoes, accessories, socks, underwear, coats, jackets, pajamas and children's clothing are not accepted.
Hours and location
The swap rack operates Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Loma Alta Park, 3330 N. Lincoln Ave., Altadena. Friday and Saturday closing times are not listed. More information is available at altadenalibrary.org.
Why it matters
The Eaton Fire, which ignited January 7, 2025, destroyed 9,413 homes, businesses and other structures in Altadena, according to PBS NewsHour. More than 15,000 households were impacted. According to a Governing magazine report published in early 2026, seven in 10 Altadenans had not returned to their homes and most displaced renters had moved five or more times since the fire.
Loma Alta Park itself has become Altadena's default community gathering place since reopening in May 2025, according to Pasadena Now. The park also serves as a designated cooling center.
Rose Bowl backpack giveaway
The Third Annual Dena Community Backpack Giveaway is scheduled for Sunday, August 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rose Bowl Stadium, 1001 Rose Bowl Dr., Pasadena. The Rose Bowl Stadium and the Rose Bowl Institute are hosting the event in partnership with Neighborhood Servants, the Pasadena Educational Foundation and Project Passion.
Last year's event served more than 1,500 families and distributed over 1,000 backpacks, with priority given to Eaton Fire-affected students. Registration is required for students, but walk-ups are welcome. Parents and guardians do not need their own ticket. Information is available in English and Spanish.
